This book is about opportunity and those who stepped forward to help create a comprehensive community college in southwestern Idaho.

A new college

The idea of a major new college being created – and created abruptly at that – in the Idaho of the 2000s sounded, for quite a while, far fetched.

But then it happened. Not only the political desire for it coalesced, but the ability to actually built it out of thin air in the space of two years turned out not to be too great a reach.

Dennis Griffin was the first president of that institution, the College of Western Idaho. And in From Scratch he describes the difficult and unlikely process of making it all happen.

How do you build a college from ground up? Griffin explains it all here.
